2010 1966 Decimal Heritage Coin Collection

$3,750

The Decimal Currency Heritage set was issued by the Royal Australian Mint in 2010 to reflect on what Australia’s decimal currency could have looked like if alternate coin designs had been chosen.
The set contains 2010-dated 1c, 2c, 5c, 10c, 20c and 50c coins, all struck to proof quality.
The set also includes 10 resin-cast replicas of designs submitted for consideration by the Decimal Currency board by a range of artists interested in designing Australia’s decimal coinage.
The 1c, 2c and 50c coins were only struck by the RAM for these sets.
With a mintage of just 400 coins each, they are without doubt Australia’s rarest non-precious metal decimal coins.
The large resin casts show several designs entered in the 1963 competition covering the reverses of Australia’s decimal coinage.
The commissioned artists featured in this set are:
- Gordon Andrews - designed Australia’s first decimal notes;
- Richard Beck - best known for his design for the 1956 Melbourne Olympics poster;
- Stuart Devlin - a highly acclaimed gold and silversmith now well known for coin designs right around the British Commonwealth;
- Eileen Mayo - designed several Australian stamps;
- Andor Meszaros - a well-known medal designer; and
- John Saxton, a prominent artist and educator.
